While Men Slept

While Men Slept

While Men Slept

But while men slept, his enemy came and sowed tares among the wheat, and went his way - Matthew 13:25

We are most familiar with the parable of our Lord Jesus likening the Kingdom of heaven to a man who sowed good seeds of wheat in his field. The Bible lets us know that soon after, an enemy came and sowed tares amid the wheat knowing it would be difficult to tell them apart until the tares would grow and eventually sabotage the productivity of the wheat.

An important thing to point out is that the enemy did this while men slept and their defenses were naturally lowered as they were less conscious of happenings around them. The latter part of Matthew 13 reveals that the enemy in question is actually Satan and his tactics have not changed today. He is always ready to take advantage of those who aren’t spiritually alert.

In these last days, while many are oblivious to the plans or stratagems of the evil one, ministers of Christ must be vigilant and about the Father’s business even more than ever. The Bible instructs us in Mark 13:33-37 to watch and pray. As God’s spiritual watchmen, we are admonished to be vigilant and spiritually alert at all times, so that the Lord does not return to find us sleeping, but rather guarding against the forces of darkness seeking to wreak havoc in our world.
